About Celebration of Quilts 2016
WELCOME QUILT ENTHUSIASTS!!
This, our 15th show year, brings exciting changes to our Celebration of Quilts show as we continue to also celebrate our guild's 30th year anniversary!!
You'll notice we have a new venue located just over one mile south of our previous site. Our exhibits benefit from a much larger and well lighted room.
We are pleased to return to our quilt show tradition by offering a Judged show. Our larger accommodations allow us to showcase more quilts on exhibit and to show off more of your entered quilts! We encourage you to enter your more recently finished quilted projects either in our judged contest or just for display during the show. Also, appointments with an Appraiser are available online.
New to this year, we are offering quilting workshops! Please visit our “workshops” page to look over our selection and sign up early to take advantage of this new opportunity. All our workshops meet in the same building as our show exhibit and are handicapped accessible.
We want to draw your attention to our special exhibit that showcases two sisters, both York Quilters' Guild members, who interpret challenges, workshops, and individually chosen patterns quite differently from each other. Hazel tends to piece and quilt her beautiful works in a more traditional style, while Barb enjoys designing her quilts with a modern, artistic quilting flair. Please come to experience and enjoy this wonderful dichotomy of talent!
We have many new and informative free demonstrations and lively discussions in our informal educational area that has ample seating and acoustics for your comfort. Check out our event schedule.
This year, instead of one large raffle quilt, we made two quilts to be raffled on Saturday at 4 pm. One is made of wools and cottons, pieced, appliquéd, and quilted traditionally. The second is made of cottons in light grays with bright blues - pieced and quilted in a modern design. Please check out our raffle page to see how lovely they are!.
Our show is a very important aspect of our guild planning and overall mission in allowing us the opportunity to share our time and talents with the community at large. As is our show tradition of giving, a portion of the proceeds from our 2016 Quilt Show will benefit Olivia's House, a loss and grief education center for children located in York City.
There is plenty of free parking by way of entering at the Richland Avenue entrance, west of the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness stadium. The fitness center is air conditioned, handicapped accessible and a food concession is available during show hours.
And finally, we proudly share another fresh detail, as we have paired our textile talents with the local Garden Club of York to showcase their colorful, coordinated, and artistic arrangements alongside our quilt exhibit.
We're hoping to see you, with perhaps a friend or two, enjoying our Celebration of Quilts!
**NOTE: Due to unforeseen circumstances, our Invitational Artist (as advertised on our printed postcards) has found it necessary to cancel her appearance at the show. We apologize for this change to our offerings.
